adding new radio driver software
« on: May 21, 2018, 11:56:43 am »
Is there any way I can work on adding support for control of a new type of radio?  I wish RCForb Server were open source or used driver modules so I could add my own.  Really appreciate all your work, Roger W8RJ.  In this case a friend and I just read that the Icom IC-2730A ($320) supports CI-V with the OPC-478UC module ($62).  Sounds like this could be a great VHF/UHF transceiver that could be added to the RemoteHams network with appropriate driver software.  Would the generic "CI-V" radio model entry (driver) be useful with the IC-2730A?  If so, then what functions could be controlled?

The current Icom driver looks like it would be able to control the basics. Give it a try. Whatever controls don't work, you can simply remove them with the Security Manager.

If you want to try your hand at developing a driver, I can email you the RCF library. (The web SVN is down). You'll need some familiarity with C# and Visual Studio.
