It is not that the software is useless, it is simply your licence does not allow any form of transmission by remote control outside of your own location. As a Foundation licencee you can use the software to the full only over your own LAN.
For example, you have your shack at the bottom of your garden with all your radio equipment there, the weather is cold so you don't wish to operate from the shack. It's warm in the house but no radio. You can use the RemoteHams software to connect to the shack from the house but only over your LAN connection. You can even let others access your radio BUT you MUST NOT grant anyone TX status.
Remote operation in the UK is a little ambiguous, it seems that while Full licence holders may make use of it for their own use in the UK, they cannot allow others the use. Very different from other parts of the world.
