WSJT-X on Remote TS-2000, TXd Not Allowed
« on: March 04, 2017, 08:41:50 am »
Today I tried to use the WSJT-X software with the v0.8.6251 client.  WSJT-X is set up to use the virtual K3 on COM30, and PTT is set for CAT (see attached picture).  When WSJT-X tries to transmit, the RCForb Client popped up a window, saying "Button [TXd] is not allowed".  Our TS-2000 RCForb server v0.7.6251 is set up to use the TX, button only.  Both the client and server are running on Win 7 Pro PCs.  It has been a long time since I tried using digital modes with the RCForb client, but I don't recall seeing this pop up dialog with earlier versions.

Thanks & 73,
Ed

It looks like you have the server setup properly ("TXd" button is not in your buttons list)
This may be a bug in RCForb Client v0.8 client. We will look into it further.

Does this happen when trying to use WSJT with the server's virtual K3 port?

I have some additional info on the problem with WSJT-X and the RCForb client.  The first time WSJT-X transmits, it works OK.  Subsequent transmissions cause the "TXd" pop up dialog.  If I restart the client, it works on the first transmission again, but not on subsequent transmissions.  I have attached a portion of the activity log from the RCForb server, that shows the TX button being used for the first transmission.

There doesn't seem to be a problem when I run WSJT-X on the server PC, connected to the virtual K3 on the RCForb server.

Thanks & 73,
Ed

I have more info about running WSJT-X connected to the RCForb server virtual K3.  I have the client running on my PC here at home, simply to monitor when the remote transmits.  WSJT-X is not running with the client.

Occasionally WSJT-X flags a "Runaway TX watchdog" error (see attached picture).  This seems to occur when the client here at home is not the window of focus (i.e. the client is in the background, and I am editing something in another window).  My guess is that the client may not be simply monitoring the TX button, but may be "holding" the TX button momentarily, at the end of a WSJT-X transmission.  It is difficult to trap the actual moment the problem occurs, since it only seems to occur when the client is in the background.

Thank you for confirming RCForb SErver does not have the issue (but something else)...

Let me know if the "TXd" issue is resolved in this new debug Client.

Hello Brandon,
The debug client 0.8.6272.22456 still has the same problem with the "Button [TXd] is not allowed" popup dialog box.

However, I tried client 0.9.144, and it seems to work OK with WSJT-X.  I will use the alpha client when doing future WSJT-X operations.

Regarding the WSJT-X "Runaway TX watchdog" message, I found that it is a feature built into WSJT-X, which will stop transmitting if the same message is sent several times.  The purpose is to prevent an operator from inadvertently transmitting after leaving his station.  When I encountered the  "Runaway TX watchdog" message while operating with RCForb client v0.9, I searched the web and found that it is a WSJT-X feature.  Sorry for the false alarm.  :-\

Thanks for all of your efforts.  If you want me to test another RCForb client v0.8 debug version, let me know.

Thank you for the clarification on the "Runaway TX watchdog" information reported by WSJT-X.

The "TXd" issue has been resolved in v0.8.6273 and has been pushed out as an update.
RCForb Client v0.9.205 was also pushed out to the public.

The newly released client v0.8.6273.17571 still has the same problem with the "Button [TXd] is not allowed" popup dialog box.  As before, WSJT-X transmits OK the first time, but subsequent transmissions result in the TXd popup box.  A screen capture is attached.

I was able to duplicate this behavior on another TS-2000 remote.
The changes fixed it for me, I'll have to look into it further to see what may be happening.

What remote is this happening on? and...
Can I get transmit privileges for testing?

Our remote name is "K2OQ TS-2000 - Club members Only" at orbid 5378. You should already have TX privileges.

Hi Brandon,
The newly released client v0.8.6273.23461 seems to work OK with WSJT-X.  So far, multiple transmissions with no popup boxes.

Thanks for a quick resolution, and for all of your efforts.

Hey all.

running RCforb 0.8.6326.33372, connected via K3 emulation to WSJT-X 1.8.0-RC1. I am getting the error

Quote
Button [TX] is not allowed.

My remote station I am using indeed has no [TX] button. It is running a Kenwood TS-590 transceiver so it's using the [TXd] button instead (according to the RCforb server manual).

Any help appreciated. Thank you in advance.

I think I have the issue duplicated.

Can you confirm you only get the error when going from transmit back to receive?

roger. With JT9/JT65 I dealt with this issue by clicking on the OK button of the mentioned error window in RCforb client and then manually clicking on [TXd] button on my RCform client to stop transmitting. I had to do that after each round when transmission was in progress. Since a few days I installed the latest WSJT-X software to try out the new digital mode "FT8". As you certainly know one transmission round takes only about 12sec so I have to be very quick. It's quite not comfortable to work with Remotehams any more on this FT8 digital mode due to the mentioned bug.

Any clues how to fix that? Looking forward to any assistance.
